Training with the seniors

E-mail Print PDF

After some successful results on the weekend for the club and seeing the Senior Footballers & Netballers move up to third on the BFL ladder, we are able to come together as one large football club. This Tuesday (30th June) the senior football squad will be training at the Western Oval with all of the Juniors as one club. It's a great chance to see some to improve skills and get to know some of the other players within the club. Every player is important to the Redan Football Netball Club and their families and supporters are also vital to the club success. After training we would welcome all players, parents, partners and supporters of the club to stick together for a bbq (at a small cost) to help support the Redan 'one club' winning attitude.

A very big thanks must go out to all the players and seniors coaches - Bredan Peace, Eamon Gill and Russell Dickson for initiating the idea and the team behind them that support it.

This week we travel down the road to Melton as we take on Melton South this week, and we will be out to record another win as we go about our task of maintaining our place in the 6, but South will be out to upset our plans as they need to win so they can stay in touch with the 6.

Last week, in windy conditions, we saw the Seniors record a good win over Melton. The 1st quarter saw us kicking with the breeze, and we were able to open a handy break, but we saw Melton fight back in the 2nd to hold a narrow half time lead. After regrouping at half time the boys came out strongly to kick 9 goals to 0 in the 3rd quarter to take a good break into the last quarter and we were able to build on that in the last quarter to record a good win. We will need that effort again.

The Reserves also recorded a good win last week. After kicking into the breeze in the 1st quarter we were able to hold Melton, and in the 2nd quarter we used the breeze well to kick 6 goals to 0 to open up a handy break. We were able to hold Melton again in the 3rd quarter and came home strongly in the last to record a 48pt win. A good team effort, and one we will need to produce again this week.

The U/18.5’s also recorded a good win last week. After a slow start that allowed Melton to hold a narrow qtr time lead, the boys came out strongly in the 2nd quarter to kick 8 goals for the quarter to open up a good lead. In the 2nd half they built on that to run out winners by 119pts.

All Netball teams recorded good wins last week as they maintain their good form for the season. The Seniors were able to grab the early lead in their game and they were able to build on that throughout the rest of the game to record a 39 goal win. The Reserves also recorded a good win, with the defence restricting Melton throughout to record a 38 goal win. The U/18.5’s also played well throughout, with the defence being very good to record a 33 goal win. A very good result by all teams and they will be out to repeat that again this week.

We have the Team of the past Decade/Hall of Fame Dinner coming up on July 25th at Saxon House. Cost is $35pp or student is $30pp. The event will celebrate the last 10 years including the 4 Senior Premierships and Runner up over this time. Also 3 Redan Personalities will be inducted into the Redan Hall of Fame & 7 new nominations will be announced.

Also we will see the release of the Redan Football Club History 1871-2008 book on the night.

The Den Kitchen - Upgrade Complete

E-mail Print PDF

The Den - Kitchen upgrade Over recent years the Den has been upgraded by dedicated members and generous donors. Now the kitchen area has undergone a much needed make-over, thanks to a group of life members.  Due to the support of Rob and Chris from the Bunch of Grapes Hotel, and their patrons, funds have assisted this work. But a major kick along was from generous donors of materials, expertise and labour.

New cupboards were donated by Craig Cushion from Ballarat Joinery Supplies and installed by Robert Sarah from R T and M Sarah Builders. Lino was donated by Ken Delaland and laid with the help of David Murphy Carpet-laying. Damien Linton from Lin-Lec Electricals was generous with materials and labour. Paint and other materials were donated by G Gay and Co. Howitt St. All greatly appreciated.

The Den - Kitchen upgrade The club should be proud of the results as the facilities are now more suitable for after-game functions and for outside hire. Further plans are on the drawing board, eg. coolroom, and members and supporters are most welcome to assist with donations.

The following life members are to be thanked for their efforts over the past two years: Ken Delaland, Robert Sarah, Bob Carpenter, Ray Kappe, Peter Loughnan and John Lawless.

Over the years similar efforts have resulted in clubroom upgrades, house-restoration for fund raising and the like.

Thanks to all concerned.
